Point Two
When Arthur was living in Smallthorne this site opposite Ford Green Hall was the location of the Chain Row, a row of narrow cottages. See Arthur’s interpretation of the Chain Row in the image archive. The Chain Row is also mentioned in Arthur’s poem, The Vanished Pit Village.
Point Three
Croft Court is the former location of the Albion Pub, where Arthur was born. The Albion was situated on the corner of Croft Court and Camp Road.
Point Four
When he was growing up Arthur attended school in the building next to St Saviour’s church. The building is currently being used as a day nursery.
Point Five
Formerly known as Hill Street, Arthur lived on this road during his early years in Smallthorne.
